Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR) is a humane method of controlling stray and feral cat populations. Neutering or spaying cats ensures they cannot reproduce, which is essential for long-term population management. TNR reduces overpopulation and also prevents certain feline diseases that are transmitted through breeding. Our TNR program is available only for residents of Logan County, Kentucky.
TNR programs are aimed at cat colonies. A colony is considered any feline population of 10 or more feral cats. A feeder is the individual feeding the cats. Total transparency between trappers and feeders is essential for any TNR program to be successful.
Once a cat colony has been identified trappers and feeders work together to complete the process. Feeders are responsible for withholding food from the cat colony for 48 hours while trappers come in to trap the colony. Trappers must trap up to 95% of the colony to be considered successful; the hope is always to trap 100%.
After trapping, the feral cats are spayed or neutered at the clinic and then returned to the place where they were living.
